Safe Harbor - Made to Order
Just down the street from my studio in quaint quiet Ucluelet, BC is the Whiskey Docks where ships and boats would safely dock through the channel protected by island and land groupings through otherwise treacherous seas. Ucluelet actually translates as the local First Nations word meaning "people with a safe place to land" or “Safe Harbor” as we know it to be.
This macra-weave depicts the view when standing on the Whiskey Docs over to the beautiful Mt Ozard and the First Nations community of Hitacu. It is by far one of my favorite views in the world, one that Emily Carr herself once looked upon as she solo traveled through the area drawing First Nations totems and villages.
Envision your favorite mountainous landscape with a reflecting body of water pouring onto your wall using recycled cotton rope, unspun roving wool, and BC beach driftwood.
